Robert W. Johnson – Obituary and Assessment Call

Robert W. JohnsonRobert Wallace Johnson, 77, of Burnet passed away April 11, 2014, at Christopher House Hospice in Austin. He was born in Wichita Falls, Texas, to Robert P. and Gertrude Johnson on Dec. 8, 1936.

Bob left a lasting impression on the hearts and lives of many people. He was so tough he once broke his leg while working cows, wired it up with stays and continued working before he went to the emergency room. He was so gentle that his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren will carry the treasure of his great love and support throughout their lives. His integrity and honesty, unquestionable; a man you could trust to the end. He was the kind of man who children, teenagers and adults alike would say, "I want to be just like him," "the finest person I've ever known," "a John Wayne kind of man but gentle like The Rifleman," "man's man," "a bull of a man," "and our family holds him in such high regard."

He literally saved the lives of two others, led family members to the Lord, pointed the way for others and enriched the lives of countless others.

Among the trophies of his career as a game warden were being named by the 16-state Southeastern Game and Fish Association as Texas Game Warden of the Year in 1977, the first annual Sheriff Wallace Riddell Memorial Peace Officers Award and Burnet's Honor Citizen in 1987.

Through his involvement in 4-H, sports teams and many other children's organizations, Bob received many rewards, some written on paper, others simply reflected and imprinted on the lives of others.

A tireless worker, Christian and friend, Bob enjoyed many activities including the Valley Lodge 175 AF & AM, ranching, hunting and fishing. Two of Bob's favorite pastimes were ridding Central Texas of cedar and playing dominos, any kind, anywhere with anybody.

Bob is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marjorie Lorraine Nugent; daughters Barbara Shipp, and husband Lyndel, grandsons, Brandon, Kyle and Joseph of Friendswood; Brenda Job, and husband Sam, granddaughter, Jennifer Job and great-granddaughter, Magnolia Jane Seale of Sam Rayburn, was predeceased by grandson, Samuel Thomas Job; daughter, Tina Abeita, and husband Greg, granddaughter Erica Gambrell, and husband George, great-granddaughters, Madeline Gambrell and Savannah Gambrell, grandson Billy King and wife Emily, great grandsons Cal and Cooper of Burnet; Mike Johnson, and wife, Kathy and grandson, Hunter of Mansfield; Brother Bill Johnson; Sisters, Nadine Riley and Thelma Potts.

A visitation for family and friends was April 12 at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home in Burnet, (512) 756-2222. His service was April 13th at First Baptist Church with burial at Shady Grove Cemetery with the Texas Game Warden Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the CF Foundation in honor of his great-granddaughters, Madeline and Savannah, 803 E. Johnson, Burnet, TX; or First Baptist Church in Burnet.
