Commission Agenda Item No. 11
Action
Acceptance of Land Donation - Marion County
Caddo Lake Wildlife Management Area
March 2008

I. Executive Summary: Staff recommends acceptance of a donation of four lots of land contiguous with the Caddo Lake Wildlife Management Area.

II. Discussion: Caddo Lake Wildlife Management Area (WMA) is an 8,731-acre TPWD facility in Harrison and Marion Counties in east Texas. The site was assembled in the 1990's from a number of tracts, including several canal and lake front subdivisions. In some cases, WMA land is interspersed with privately owned subdivision lots. TPWD staff has been evaluating ways to clean up WMA boundaries by acquisition, disposition, or land exchanges.

TPWD staff was contacted recently by the owner of four such lots contiguous with the WMA, comprising approximately one acre, willing to donate those lots to TPWD. The owner has since signed a Gift Deed contingent upon acceptance by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission. Ownership of these lots adds waterfront land to the WMA and addresses boundary issues.

III. Recommendation: The staff recommends the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission adopt the following motion:

"The Executive Director is authorized to take all necessary steps to accept the donation of four lots in Marion County for addition to the Caddo Lake Wildlife Management Area."
