Commission Agenda Item No. 12

Action
Acceptance of Land Donation – Limestone County
.22 Acres at Fort Parker State Park
August 26, 2010

I.       Executive Summary:  A .22 acre lot has been offered as a donation to Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) for addition to Fort Parker State Park.

II.     Discussion:  In the 1960s the Springfield Club acquired approximately 50 acres of land at the “back” (north end) of 1,489-acre Fort Parker State Park.  The only access to this acreage is by the main park road.  Earlier this year, TPWD purchased most of the interest in the Springfield Club land, but a number of inholdings remain in the form of subdivided lots.  Park staff has been contacting these individual lot owners about donating their lots to the park.  The lot that is the subject of this item is the first of these lots to be offered to TPWD.

III.    Recommendation:  The staff recommends the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission adopt the following motion:

"The Executive Director is authorized to take all necessary steps to accept the donation of .22 acres of land in Limestone County for addition to Fort Parker State Park."
