Cool off from the summer heat and learn the basics of kayaking! Texas Outdoor Family instructors will teach you the fundamentals of kayaking and give you a chance to test out your paddling skills! No experience necessary—we will provide kayaks, life jackets and paddles. Morning and afternoon sessions available, call ahead of time to reserve your spot. Meet under the U.S. Highway 281 Bridge (left after Park Headquarters.)

Things to Know

  • All Participants must have a valid park entry permit
  • Preregistration is required, space is limited (EVENT FULL)
  • Participants must be at least 10 years old to paddle a kayak alone
  • All children must be accompanied by a guardian
  • Participants must wear a provided life jacket at all times in the kayak
  • There will be both single kayaks and tandem (2-person) kayaks available

What to Expect

  • Be prepared to get wet, and choose your attire accordingly! You will need to step into the river  to get on the kayaks, so water shoes may be helpful
  • Paddling is a physical activity. Prepare yourself by bringing sun screen, drinking water, sunglasses, and a hat
  • Approximately a half hour of instruction and 1.5 hours of paddling
