Equestrian

Horsing Around Permitted
  • While in designated campsites, horses should be kept haltered on a lead or in a pen area authorized by department personnel.
  • All horses must be certified to be free of Equine Infectious Anemia. Horse owners/riders must carry such certification (negative Coggins Test results) during their stay and present such documentation upon request.

Horseback riding is permitted on the WMA at times when hunts are not ongoing. Season dates for this activity run from approximately May 1 to August 31. Riders are required to stay on designated roads and fencelines. Riders should not ride alone, should carry a map of the WMA, and should pack plenty of water. Riders are welcome to stay in the WMA campground, but should review the section on Camping. All riders must possess an Annual Public Hunting (APH) Permit or Limited Public Use (LPU) Permit.

SPECIAL REGULATION: All horses must be certified to be free of Coggins' disease. Horse owners/riders must carry such certification during their stay and present such documentation upon request. See the Prohibited Acts section of the Public Hunting Lands Map Booklet for new regulations on horse use.
