Dates Open:

General Public Use is allowed uninterrupted from April 1 through August 31 each spring and summer. Contact area manager for additional dates or special events. Public Hunts are available annually by special permit and annual permit.

General Access

Public access to non-consumptive use is not available during scheduled special permitted public hunt periods. Generally, public hunts are scheduled from September through March. The Chaparral WMA is open for non-consumptive use access during the period of April 1 to August 31 with admittance through an access point located at the campground. Call the Area headquarters for further information.

Note: All hunters must sign in at the check station. An Annual Public Hunting Permit is required for all walk-in hunts and campground use. Standby hunters wishing to participate in special hunts must be at the check station by 11:00 a.m. (10:00 a.m. for youth hunts) on the scheduled hunt start date.

Permits Required

Visitors 17 years of age and older must posses either an Annual Public Hunting (APH) Permit or Limited Public Use (LPU) Permit to utilize the WMA (no permit required for the driving tour and nature trails). These permits are available at all license sale locations in Texas or by calling 1-800 TXLIC4U (895-4248). Permits are not for sale at the WMA.
