Epic2 — Riders again enjoyed near optimal packed trail surface conditions, as rains soaked the landscape for the second consecutive night leading in to Saturday’s finale of the three-day Dirt Fest 2012 held at Big Bend Ranch State Park. Cooler temperatures were again the order of the day, prompting another strong turnout of participants for the annual mountain biking event held each year in the high Chihuahuan Desert mountains just outside Lajitas, TX. Numerous riders hit the trail for one of several bike route options; more than 40 even rode the 54-mile, cross country Epic Ride loop in a grueling, one-day circuit (which is double the number from last year)—including those pictured here who attempted it atop a tandem bike on Saturday. For more details, contact Big Bend Ranch State Park at (432) 358-4444, or visit Desert Sports’ Web site for more details about Dirt Fest 2012 and other mountain biking events in the Big Bend area at www.desertsportstx.com.
