AUSTIN — The one-hour video documentary “The State of the Gulf—America’s Sea” will air in late February on all Texas public television stations, taking a broad look at the Gulf of Mexico almost a year after the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.

UPDATE: Desert Bighorn Sheep Released at Big Bend Ranch State Park

ALPINE – Forty-six desert bighorn sheep bolted out of transport trailers and up into the Bofecillos Mountains along the Rio Grande this week. The 12 rams and 34 ewes were captured by helicopter at Elephant Mountain Wildlife Management Area and moved to Big Bend Ranch State Park on Tuesday and Wednesday, Dec. 21-22.

TPWD Seeks Public Input on How Spotted Seatrout Should be Managed

CORPUS CHRISTI — Due to continued public interest in overall spotted seatrout population health, Texas Parks & Wildlife Department Coastal Fisheries Division staff will host a series of coastwide scoping meetings in January to obtain public input on potential conservation measures for spotted seatrout as part of the annual statewide proclamation process.   Coastal Fisheries staff will consider input on how spotted seatrout are currently managed in Texas.

29 Desert Bighorn Sheep Released at Big Bend Ranch State Park

ALPINE – Twenty-nine desert bighorn sheep bolted out of transport trailers and straight up into the Bofecillos Mountains along the Rio Grande at about 3 p.m. today. The 24 ewes and five rams were captured by helicopter at Elephant Mountain Wildlife Management Area this morning and moved to Big Bend Ranch State Park.

AUSTIN – Some of Texas’ most remarkable natural history and most iconic wildlife can be found at sites featured on the Far West Texas Wildlife Trail whose debut this month completes a statewide wildlife trail system launched 15 years ago to bolster birding and other forms of nature tourism.

TPW Commission Approves Devils River Land Acquisition

AUSTIN – The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission Monday authorized the acquisition of nearly 18,000 acres of biologically diverse and culturally significant land in Val Verde County with 10 miles of frontage along the pristine Devil’s River by leveraging $4 million in public dollars with more than $10 million in private donations.

Nominations Sought for Texas Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame

ATHENS, Texas — Individuals or organizations that have made a lasting contribution to freshwater fishing in Texas may be nominated through February 28 for induction into the Texas Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame.
