Public Meetings Set for Big Bend Ranch State Park Use Plan

AUSTIN — The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department will hold two meetings in January to seek public comment about how Big Bend Ranch State Park should be accessed and used for recreational purposes in the future.

Texas Off Highway Vehicle Decals Enforced Starting Jan. 1

AUSTIN, Texas — On Jan. 1, 2007, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department game wardens and other authorities will begin enforcing the requirement for all qualifying trail vehicles to have a current Texas Off Highway Vehicle (OHV) decal properly mounted on their trail vehicles when used at OHV venues on public land in Texas.

WESLACO, Texas — Build it and the birds will come. That could well be the mantra of the newest wing of the World Birding Center — Estero Llano Grande State Park — that officially opened this past June.

Flat Out Fishing Offers Tips for Novice and Expert Anglers

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department will host the first of two special Flat Out Fishing events in Corpus Christi to help anglers start the new year with an edge. The fourth annual Flat Out Fishing event kicks off at 8 a.m., Sat., Jan. 27, at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. The event will be held at the university’s Science and Technology Building in Room 104. The second event will be in Lake Jackson on February 24, 2007.

Ground Broken for New Caprock Canyons Visitor Center

QUITAQUE, Texas — Ground has been broken for a new, 4,440-square-foot Visitor Center at Caprock Canyons State Park. An official groundbreaking ceremony was held Nov. 28 for the new center that is scheduled for completion by summer of 2007.

AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas State Railroad State Park will continue operating through Aug. 31, 2007, although the historic train’s long-term future is tied to the broader issue of state funding for parks to be resolved in the upcoming legislative session.
