COLLEGE STATION, Texas — The Texas Organization of Wildlife Management Associations (TOWMA) will be holding its biannual conference at the College Station Hilton Aug. 10-12. The focal point of the conference is a two-day Wildlife Management 2006 symposium.

This symposium features a wide range of topics of interest to landowners and land managers and is open to anyone interested in wildlife management.

The symposium will kick off with a mixer/social on Thursday evening. The symposium program begins Friday morning with keynote speaker Robert L. Cook, executive director of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD).

The morning session will continue with presentations on prescribed burning, brush control, deer and food plots. There will be a noon luncheon with special guest speaker Larry Butler, Ph.D., Natural Resources Conservation Service state conservationist.

The afternoon session will include topics on game birds, wetlands, grassland restoration, wildscape design, and wildlife photography. There will be an evening banquet with special guest speaker David Allen of the Sand County Foundation.

Country singer/storyteller Jim Wilson will provide the evening’s entertainment.

The symposium continues on Saturday morning with the focus shifting to predator control, including coyotes, feral hogs, cowbirds, and fire ants. Experts will also cover how to design and maintain wildlife management association Web sites. The symposium will conclude with optional site tours in the afternoon.

There will be organization and vendor booths on display both days. A special feature will be the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) Prescribed Burn Trailer recently acquired by TOWMA through a NWTF Coastal Bend Chapter grant.

Registration for the conference is $85 ($135 with spouse) and includes the mixer/social, luncheon, and banquet. Additional banquet tickets can be purchased for $25. Credit cards are accepted. For more information, contact Clint McPhaul at (512) 304-0014 or visit the TOWMA Web site.
