SAN ANTONIO — Families with kids are encouraged to take advantage of discounted pricing and experience outdoor activities like learning to cast, archery, rock climbing and more on Sunday, Feb. 22, the last day of the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo.

For the first time, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is bringing its Life’s Better Outside Experience to the stock show and rodeo. Here, children ages 6-17 can try multiple activities for a chance to win a complete camping gear package.

Feb. 22 is Family Day at the stock show and rodeo, with deeply discounted prices. Admission is $1 per person and parking is $3 for any lot. (Normally it’s $7 to enter and a minimum of $8 to park.) And, if attendees pick up a Denny’s coupon available at 17 area Denny’s restaurant locations, admission is free.

"We are looking forward to partnering with Texas Parks and Wildlife to bring a taste of the outdoors and all the activities it has to offer to the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo," said Russell Bading, an Assistant Vice-President of the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo.

Activities in the Life’s Better Outside Experience include Archery, Rock Climbing, Camping Basics, Texas State Parks, Texas Outdoor Family Program, Operation Game Thief’s "Wall of Shame," Game Warden Who Dunnit?, Backyard Bass, Take Me Fishing Trailer, Mystery Boxes, Sea Senses, Drawing Tables and Habitat Puzzles.

This will take place in the Horse Show Tent Annex, two blue and white tents next to Horse Barn 2. Life’s Better Outside Experience activities are open 10 a.m.-5 p.m., although the rodeo runs 9 a.m.-8 p.m. that day.

TPW Commissioner Margaret Martin of Boerne will be on hand, and volunteers staffing the activities include students from Incarnate Word, Saint Mary’s University, Texas State University, plus angler education and archery volunteer instructors. To volunteer, contact Trey Hamlett at trey.hamlett@tpwd.texas.gov or (512) 389-4361.

More information is on the stock show and rodeo Web site, including the full schedule of activities for Feb. 22, plus driving directions to the stock show and rodeo.
